Kitten care: instructions

Firstly, congratulations on finding your forever friend! Down below, you shall find all the instructions you'll need to take care of your forever friend once you receive them:

🐾 Bringing Your Kitten Home

Before you pick up your kitten or when you get home, set up a quiet, enclosed space with their essentials (litter box, food, water, bed, toys) to help them feel safe. Let your kitten explore this area first before gradually giving access to the rest of your home. Keep things calm with minimal visitors and noise in the first few days. This helps reduce stress and encourages a smooth transition.

🥣 Feeding

When feeding your kitten, please stick with the same brand of food (Purina Pro Plan/Purina One) that we fed them with for at least the first week. By the time you receive your kitten, they will be able to eat both wet and dry food. If you really want to switch the brand of the food, mix in the new food gradually until the kitten is able to eat it alone without any stomach issues. Feed your kitten small, frequent meals (3–4 times daily), and always have clean water available. Avoid giving milk—it can upset their stomach.

🧻 Litter Box

When you receive your kitten from us, they are already litter trained therefore it is very important that they have an area in your home they can use the bathroom. We highly recommend purchasing a Litter-Robot! You fill it with litter and when your kitty goes to use it, it will cycle itself so you rarely empty it. HOWEVER, we know that not everybody prefers that so a tray of litter in a set clean area works just as well! We use Tidy Cat Litter but feel free to change it if you please. Please be sure to keep it as clean as possible and to not move the litter area constantly to prevent any accidents in your home.

🧶 Socialization & Play

Spend quality time playing with and gently handling your kitten each day. Use interactive toys like wands or balls to stimulate natural hunting instincts. Allow your kitten to explore new spaces and people gradually. Positive interactions now build confidence and trust.

🏥 Health & Vet Care

Schedule a vet visit within a few days of bringing your kitten home to confirm they’re healthy and up to date on vaccines. We will provide you with all medical records for your kitten which will state all vaccines and deworming that they received before pick up. Bring these records to your local vet. If there is something wrong with your kitten within this first week, please contact us immediately.

🏡 Home Safety

Kitten-proof by removing cords, toxic plants, and small objects they might swallow. Block off dangerous hiding spots (like behind appliances or inside reclining furniture). Keep windows closed or ensure screens are secure. Supervise exploration until you’re confident the environment is safe.

🐕‍🦺 Introducing Other Pets

Start with scent swapping—let your pets smell each other’s bedding or toys. Use a slow, staged introduction with barriers (like a door or gate). Supervise all early interactions and reward calm behavior from both sides. Patience helps prevent fear, aggression, or stress.

🧘 Routine

Keep feeding, playtime, and sleep on a consistent daily schedule. Routines help kittens feel secure and predict what to expect. Regular interaction also supports social development and behavior. Structure reduces stress and supports healthy habits.

🔄 When to Call the Vet

If you are concerned for your pet, watch for warning signs like not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, or constant hiding. Sneezing, coughing, or discharge from the eyes and nose may indicate illness. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, call your vet. Early care can prevent bigger issues later.
